Written on the Wall

Rome sometimes seems like one big canvas. Graffiti is everywhere — which makes sense, given that the word itself comes from the Italian graffiare, to scratch. And the tradition dates back to the ancient Romans, who left graffiti everywhere: political messages, jokes, insults, advertisements, love notes. I can't help but think of the "Romans go home" scene from Monty Python's Life of Brian.

Most of the graffiti here is in Italian or English, so when I spotted the image above on a wall near the church in our neighborhood, I was curious. I took a photo so I could look it up later.

It's Polish: "Every day I offer prayers to God (but that asshole hasn't listened to me for 20 years)."
